Ready to settle in Vivarium?

In the event that we do not have enough individuals to fill one of Vivarium’s flats with long-term memberships, we will explore alternative solutions. These may include offering shorter term stays to other members interested to join the community. We will work closely with all long-term members to find the best possible outcome.

To join Vivarium’s long term membership, we have a simple and inclusive process to ensure there’s a good match with the community. First, interested individuals reach out to us through our website or contact us directly. They fill in a simple form and then arrange an initial meeting to get to know each other better.

Vivarium alumni will be prioritized over other potential residents and once a new person that is interested in joining completes the form, the answers will be shared with current residents for their validation. If everyone feels it's a good fit, we will guide the new member through the necessary process and introduce them officially to the community.

Circumstances can change, and sometimes it becomes necessary to cancel or leave before the agreed-upon period. While this membership encourages members to commit to the community for the long term, we also recognize the importance of flexibility. In such situations, we require a notice period (typically 60 days) to allow us to find a suitable replacement. We strive to foster a sense of community and connection among our members. As such, subletting rooms to individuals outside the community is generally not permitted. However, we understand the community is formed by people who love to travel and explore the world. If you wish to go on a temporary trip, we encourage you to discuss your plans with us and the other members. Depending on the circumstances, we may be able to find a suitable arrangement, such as temporarily renting your room to another person interested in joining the community.

Vivarium operates under a set of shared values and principles. We believe in fostering a respectful and inclusive environment where everyone feels safe and comfortable. Apart from the common community guidelines, specific rules will be defined and updated with the long-term members in our specific community meetings.

Vivarium places a strong emphasis on co-creation and collaboration. We encourage members to get actively involved in the community. Additionally to the regular activities proposed by us as hosts, there will be a space to define new activities and rituals. These activities may include workshops, skill-sharing sessions, community meals, cultural exchanges, volunteering initiatives, outdoor adventures, and more.

Important decisions are typically made through our monthly community meetings, where members can express their thoughts, discuss ideas, and work towards finding common ground. We value transparent communication and actively encourage open dialogue to ensure the collective well-being of the community.

While both Vivarium's long-term membership and a shared flat involve communal living, there are notable differences. Our long-term membership offers a deeper level of engagement and personal commitment to the community.
